The Media, Dialogue and Morality
The Eurasian Media Forum (EAMF), a non-political organisation founded to promote East-West understanding through dialogue, held its 10th conference on 11 and 12 October 2012, attended by some 450 delegates – journalists, politicians and experts – from 45 countries. The event took place for the first time in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan. All previous meetings were held in Almaty, the country’s commercial centre.
In two days of discussions, speakers addressed some of the moral challenges facing the media as they cover current international and regional issues – the ‘war on terror’, the European financial crisis, the spread of nuclear weapons, the ‘Arab Awakening’ – as well as the impact of new media phenomena like Facebook, Twitter and WikiLeaks.
