Elaine Conkievich is a senior international development professional with over 20 years of experience in the fields of human rights and rule of law, gender mainstreaming, democratic institution building, conflict resolution, and preventive diplomacy.
Ms. Conkievich joined UN Women in 2014 from OSCE where she was serving as the Director, Department of Democratization, in the OSCE Mission in Kosovo.
Ms. Conkievich’s work experience with OSCE, UN and international NGOs includes serving in Tajikistan as the Country Director for HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation and as a consultant for the European Commission and for DFID; in Armenia, as Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan and as Senior Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator; in Austria, as Senior Mission Programme Officer for Central Asia in the OSCE Secretariat; in Belarus, as Counsellor with the OSCE Advisory and Monitoring Group; in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as Acting Director General for Human Rights with the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Switzerland, as a Research and Programme Assistant with UNITAR; in Latvia as a Mission Member with the CSCE Mission to Latvia;, and in Germany as a Political Fellow with the US Embassy Office in Berlin.
Ms. Conkievich has a Master’s degree in International Studies from The American University, School of International Service, Washington DC. She is fluent in English, German, and Russian.
