STOP PRESS:  A star addition to the list of international speakers for the jubilee Eurasian Media Forum – Michael Dobbs,  British writer and politician, known worldwide as the author of the best-selling “House of Cards”, is coming to Kazakhstan to participate in the event. It was his trilogy of novels that formed the basis of two hugely popular television series, first British and then American.  The BBC version set new standards for political television drama, winning two BAFTA awards.  Streaming giant Netflix transposed the setting from British to American political life, producing a long-running sequence that went down in history as the first online series, distributed all over the world.. It subsequently won both Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Michael Dobbs is the author of many other popular political novels and thrillers.

Michael Dobbs is also a long-serving senior politician within the British Conservative Party.  As Baron Dobbs, he is an active member of the House of Lords. He was a special adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and served in a number of high-ranking positions within the Conservative Party.  In the business world, he worked for the international advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi, where he held the position of deputy chairman.  His media experience includes writing as a national newspaper columnist and hosting a BBC television current affairs programme.

At the Eurasian Media Forum, Lord Michael Dobbs’s participation is expected on the second day, May 23, in the panel session, “Evolution of trust in society: how to run it in the modern world?”. The discussion will be devoted to the problem of a global lack of confidence in the institutions of power, business, the media and non-governmental organizations, as evidenced by the results of the annual global study, “The Barometer of Confidence”. What are the reasons for this trend and is it possible to restore people’s trust in public institutions?  This is the question that the panel will try to answer. In addition to Lord Dobbs, the speakers will include:

The jubilee media Forum will be held under the slogan, “15 Years of Evolution: How the World is changing and how the World changes us”. The themes that will be raised in the course of the event will concern both current and future media, as well as a wide range of global socio-political and environmental issues.
